Database: Site Booster Module
The Ocean Site Booster's Database module helps you reclaim storage space and improve site performance by removing unnecessary "clutter" data that accumulates over time in WordPress.
To access the Database module, navigate to the Optimization panel, select the Database tab, and toggle to enable the Database module.
Enable (or disable) any option you would like to use, then save changes at the bottom of the module page.
Available Database options include:

Manual Cleanup
For one-time maintenance, you can trigger specific cleanup tasks individually. This is recommended before performing a full site backup:
- Delete Post Revisions: Old versions of your posts/pages saved every time you hit "Update".
- Delete Spam Comments: All comments currently marked as "Spam" in your discussion settings.
- Delete Transients: Temporary data stored by plugins/themes that are often expired but still taking up space.
- Delete Trash Posts & Comments: Anything currently sitting in the "Trash" folder for posts, pages, or comments.
- Delete WordPress Auto-Drafts: Empty draft posts created by WordPress when you start a new post but don't save it.
Automatic Cleanup (Set-and-Forget)
Tired of manual cleaning? Enable the Automatic Cleanup toggle to let Site Booster handle the chores using the built-in WordPress Cron system.
- Cleanup Frequency: Choose how often the maintenance runs: Hourly, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
- Cleanup Operations: Select exactly which items you want the automation to target (eg, only revisions and spam).
- Cron Status: A live indicator showing exactly when your next scheduled cleanup will take place.
Best Practices & Safety
Always Backup First
While deleting "junk" data is generally safe, database operations are permanent. We strongly recommend performing a full site backup before running a Manual Cleanup for the first time.
The "Revisions" Strategy
If you are an active writer, post revisions can grow to thousands of rows very quickly.
- Manual Tip: Run a manual delete after you finish a big project or launch a new page.
- Auto Tip: Set "Post Revisions" to a Weekly automatic cleanup to keep your database size from spiraling.
Understanding Transients
Transients are meant to be temporary. Deleting them is 100% safe; WordPress or your plugins will simply recreate them the next time they are needed. Clearing them often solves "mysterious" issues where old data seems stuck on the site.
Important: Compatibility & Conflict Resolution
WordPress Optimizer vs. Automatic Cleanup
The Database Module uses the built-in WordPress Cron system to run your scheduled cleanups (Hourly, Daily, etc).
- The Conflict: If you have enabled the Disable WP Cron setting in the WordPress Optimizer module, Site Booster will be unable to trigger your automatic database cleanups.
- The Solution:
- If you want to use Automatic Cleanup, ensure that Disable WP Cron is turned OFF in the WordPress Optimizer settings.
- Alternatively, if you prefer to keep WP Cron disabled for performance reasons, you can still use the Manual Cleanup buttons in the Database Module at any time.
Database Cleaner vs. Revisions Control
Both the Database module and the WP General module handle "Post Revisions," but in different ways:
- WordPress Optimizer (Prevention): Use the Revisions Control setting to limit how many revisions WordPress saves moving forward (e.g., limit to 5).
- Database Module (Cure): Use Delete Post Revisions to wipe out the thousands of old revisions that are already clogging up your database from the past.
- Pro-Tip: For the cleanest site, use both! Set a limit in the WP General module, and run a one-time Manual Cleanup in the Database module.
Important: Using Site Booster with Other Plugins
To ensure your site remains stable and fast, please review these guidelines if you are using other optimization plugins (like WP-Optimize, WP Rocket, Autoptimize, or Asset CleanUp).
1. Database Collision Warning
If you have Database's Automatic Cleanup enabled in Site Booster, ensure that similar "Scheduled Cleanup" features are turned off in other plugins.
- The Risk: Two plugins attempting to optimize or repair the same database tables simultaneously can lead to table "locking" or, in rare cases, data loss.
- The Solution: Pick one "Manager" for your database. If you love Site Booster’s interface, disable the database features in your other plugins.
2. Cron Job Conflicts
As noted previously, if you use a security or optimization plugin that disables the WordPress Cron, Site Booster’s Automatic Cleanup and certain WooCommerce Optimizations will stop working.
- Tip: Always check your Cron Status in the Site Booster Database module to ensure your schedule is "Live".
